"My husband, Edin Nalic, is a Bosnian immigrant, and together we are establishing Balkan Treat Box, a food truck serving food from the Balkan countries to the people of St. Louis.
When I met my husband, I learned how to prepare authentic Balkan cuisine as a way to give him a taste of home while he was adjusting to life in the United States. The deeper I delved into Eastern European cuisine, the more I fell in the love the food and the region. So much so, that in 2014 I traveled to Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro and Turkey where I apprenticed in restaurants and bakeries. I made it a point to learn the non-recorded recipes from women in their homes—I would buy the ingredients and they would teach me their dishes. The Bosnian war disrupted the tradition of women passing down recipes and techniques inside their homes and across generations. Many women who have emigrated to the U.S. were not able to learn these culinary traditions. Balkan Treat Box is way to share and keep these traditions alive" said owner, Loryn Feliciano-Nalic.
